It is located in the village of Elgsnes. The church is part of the Trondenes parish in the Trondenes deanery in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The chapel is sometimes known as ''Hans Egedes minne'', referring to the famous missionary to Greenland from this part of Harstad in the 17th century.
